Meet Dr. Meaghan Ranalli
DVM
Dr. Meaghan Ranalli was born in North Carolina and grew up right next door in Fishkill. She earned a Bachelor’s in Biomedical Science from Marist University in 2022 and a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University in 2026. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Ranalli’s professional interests include exotic animals (such as birds, reptiles and small mammals), soft tissue and dental surgery, and animal behavior.
Growing up, she was drawn to activities that fostered her love of nature, animals and people and always knew she would end up in a field that involved helping others. As an example, her Girl Scout Silver and Gold Award projects supported local animal rescues including the Animal Rescue Foundation and SPCA. She has also worked with other organizations such as the Semper-Fi Parents of the Hudson Valley and Astor Services.
During undergraduate school, she worked to gain hands-on experience and skills in preparation for applying to veterinary school. She worked as a veterinary assistant in two local practices and did an internship at the Trevor Zoo in Millbrook. She also attended pre-vet student programs at the Busch Gardens Zoo in Florida and the Kids Saving the Rainforest Rescue in Costa Rica. During veterinary school, she worked as a student technician at the Janet L. Swanson Wildlife Hospital, gaining experience with local wildlife species. She also did externships at a high-volume spay and neuter clinic in Michigan, a zoo and tropical education center in Belize, a large wildlife center in Texas, and a veterinary hospital in Pennsylvania. She also worked at a monthly community clinic for low-income residents in Ithaca. “I love working with all species of animals and I wanted to gain as much experience with as many species as possible during school.”
She moved back to the Hudson Valley with her husband, Justin, and began an exciting career as an Associate Veterinarian at Hudson Highlands in 2026. “It is an honor to be able to now work with vets and technicians that treated my childhood pups and who inspired me to be the veterinarian I am today.” In her spare time, she enjoys travelling, bike riding, hiking, swimming, bowling, reading, playing video games and hanging out with friends.
